3 flats converted back into 1 large house - Wimbledon, South West London
We kicked this year off with a great project - converting three separate flats (one on top of the other), back into one large 3 storey house in Wimbledon. This was a tricky one, it meant 3 separate gas meters. 3 separate boilers and central heating systems. 1 shared water main, which split off into 3, 2 of which fed flats directly and one which fed a cold water storage tank in the roofspace. This basically meant a full gut of all the plumbing, and heating pipework and a restart from fresh.
The house, when finished, will comprise of 5 bedrooms, 3 bathrooms, a cloakroom, utility room and kitchen and the clients obviously want great water pressure throughout the house (...especially at the showers!). We opted for a 300 litre "Megaflo" (pressurized hot water cylinder), because it would be able to handle the demand of a full house household - showers, baths, washing machines etc. This meant the old lead water main had to be upgraded to 32mm pipe to ensure sufficient flow rates to the cylinder and throughout the house.
At this stage in the game we've all but completed the "first fix"- that's piping up to 23 new radiators and towel rails, the 3 bathrooms (hots and colds to baths, basin toilets etc + wastes), cloakroom, kitchen, and utility (including water softner), the new boiler's (Worcester Bosch) on the wall and the Megaflo in installed - with all our pipework tested up to 5 Bar of pressure.
Second installment and pictures to follow shortly...
